Another Home Run for Robert Eggers! like Northman, I avoided everything about this film so I could be as blind as I could be before stepping into the cinema. I would say Willem Dafoe's character was more interesting in the other two Egger films, but he did a great job. I genuinely just adore this film. In most cases, this should be an example of Hollywood milking its old IP but this is both a love letter and a fantastic film on its own. This far exceeds the original film and you almost don't need to see it, to be honest. It balances the cheese, the heart and seriousness, so the stakes feel raw. Cruise does it again! I'm just impressed that this is the 7th film in the series, and the stakes feel as high as ever. Like I do agree that the stunts can go to the point of slapstick, yet there's such a fine line between what Cruise does compared to likes of Fast and Furious.
