Civil War 2024
Certainly has some gripping scenes, and I enjoyed everyone's performances (the finale in particular was wonderfully shot), but something about this didn't quite land for me.
I think perhaps in these times we live in, even a war movie that tries to be as realistic and "on-the-ground" as this one is outdated before it even releases. The harrowing and immediate accounts the world has seen coming out of Ukraine and Gaza could never be adequately captured in a film, and…

The Zone of Interest 2023
The care and craft in this anti-movie is staggering. It doesn't aim to be yet another depiction of the horror of the holocaust, but instead shows us how absent horror was in the lives of those who carried it out.
'The Banality of Evil' is a relatively simple concept to understand in a historical context, it's another thing entirely to so perfectly capture it in a film.
To end a movie like this the way they did is pure genius. Words cannot describe how it made me feel.
