You get a surprising ending after sitting through 2 hours of intentionally cliche, boring garbage. And the only reason the ending is a surprise is because it throws away everything the last 2 hours was doing in order to subvert viewer expectation. They literally time-skipped the part of the movie that would make the ending good.
