  cause and effect: neo saves a kid offscreen, one of his smaller messianic actions. that kid opens a gate, allowing the use of an emp that buys just enough time for neo to perform his most messianic action, and be lit up in gold light angel wings as he sacrifices himself to defeat smith and save humanity. because he chose to!!
  
  i've always thought the matrix sequels were good, but this time around i'm newly convinced they're fucking excellent. science fiction and mysticism in the service of humanist ideals, an almost dorkily earnest celebration of love: exactly my shit.

  devastating as always. a spectacle of achievement in saying so much with so few words, because who needs them when you can animate this beautifully. but it's not just fancified folklore - it could've been, and still been great - it's a terribly real and moving story about grief. every time that saoirse speaks for the first time, every time conor tells his wife how much he loved her... stop it.

  technically a halloween movie which just seems crazy to me?? but then again so is crying over it once more on christmas eve and yet here we are
