  a spiritual successor to alan clarke, it’s a damn shame oldman never made another film cause he’s bloody good at it, although i imagine he’s probably still exhausted from making it over 25 years later. this is a tragedy in every sense of the word, but one that isn’t embellished or on the nose in any way. an emotionally taxing and raw assault on the senses but one that gives a pretty accurate slice of life picture into the often grim realities of growing up poor and unloved.

  it feels somewhat wrong to talk about everything i personally reckon this film is trying to say; i feel like i’ve just read through someone’s diary over the last few hours and it feels wrong to spill my take on the contents when everything about this film is so personal, so intentional and so finely crafted.
