so many missed opportunities for (perhaps overplayed, but definitely still enjoyable) takes regarding the role of A Mother, especially relating to religious trauma.
it was ridiculous and quite frankly too realistic in a droll and tedious way, and on some level the characters are all just a little unlikeable. solange is obviously the worst by a landslide, but norman is kind of a shitty husband, and both norman and belinda don't seem cut out for parenthood at their state at the start of the movie.
but brandy is gorgeous and i got to hear her sing edith piaf, so this movie gets a star for that.
i don't know what literally any of you are talking about. the plot is nothing, the message exists but in the form of a half-dissipated vape cloud - you can clearly see it, kind of. but it's sort of unpleasant and unformed and it's gone shortly after it came.
is the point to feel as disoriented and confused about the whole experience as randy is? if so, good job, i guess.

if you really think this movie is a 4.2 average i don't know what to tell you. the shots are beautiful, the story is heartwarming, the romance is wonderful, the children are cute, and the music is fucking fantastic. this is a 5 and i don't want to hear anything else about it you fucking heathens

loved it. an excellent albeit heavy-handed metaphor for america's current state (as always) but didn't focus so much on hammering in the point that i couldn't enjoy the story and characters.
paul mescal made for a believable and inspiring hero, holding his own against seasoned actors like pedro pascal and denzel washington. i could've done with a bit less repetition of his lines throughout scenes, but in the end it drove the steadfastness and resilience of his character home. i…
