  RIP Gene Hackman

  Always loved this film- sports film, small town America film, with male angst demonstrated through alcoholism and anger management…it’s all here. But what makes it a top tier sports film is that when you get to the big game, you’re surprised and nervous to watch it all (even while you know the outcome).

  Stone cold classic. Looks and sounds amazing. One of Caan’s best performances. The coffee shop scene, breaking into the last vault, and final ‘showdown’ are all instantly memorable moments. Can’t believe I’d never really heard of the film (beyond it’s an early Mann)

  This was a favourite VHS rental at one point (I am a sucker for a screwball comedy). And it’s really not that bad (High praise indeed). Stallone’s best comedy? (Is there competition?)
