when i watched this i was like 14 years old, i hated her for what she was doing to him. i thought she was insane, i thought she could have handled it better. but now holy shit. that monologue is something i will never forget. women are always expected to handle it gracefully, to move on, to not be "crazy" but she went full tilt. love it. made me realize just how insane i was for taking his side.
i remember the first time i watched this movie. such a heater. shelly duvall was fucking insane in this movie. you delude yourself into thinking that oh he is just having a mental breakdown throughout the movie to protect yourself from the fact that maybe the hotel is really haunted. you're trying to rationalize his behaviour but you always have that itch, no something is truly wrong this place is evil. its haunting, it slowly breaks down the illusions you so carefully put together to understand what is happening. Everyone needs to watch this movie. the whole concept of "shining" KINO.
its just disgusting. i get why people like it but i personally feel like you can make a good movie without shocking people with completely insane scenarios. it is such a disrespect to the premise of the movie and the beauty of cinema in general to scam people into loving a movie that is nothing but completely disgusting. it reduced the soul of the movie to the shocking scenes in it. i do not recommend.
