    With so little fanfare for this release you could assume it’d be some toss away direct to DVD quality kids film, and to a degree it is a fairly short and small scale comedy cartoon, but its clear there’s a lot of passion put into this film, regardless why it was made or where it ended up, and there’s a lot to enjoy between the usual looney humor, 50s B movie send up plot, and some clever moments of animation.

    Straightforward every man action story with its own fun twist, and its thankfully not afraid to get nasty with it to make the concept feel ever relevant. Weird tonally, but definitely has its moments.

    The first Gladiator worked so well because it was the perfect intersection of historical epic and straight action. The balance may be a little off this time. The story’s a bit clunky with more than a few contrived sequelisms and characters who get somewhat lost in the mess (our lead is maybe the third or fourth most interesting player here), but when things start to cook in the second half, they definitely cook. So yes I am entertained.
