  Monos is a masterfully shot exploration of adolescence and the ambiguity of modern warfare set against the incredible landscape of Columbia. The technical aspects of this movie are remarkably well executed. From the stark mountains of the Andes to the dense rainforests below, the cinematography perfectly juxtaposes immense natural beauty with the brutal madness of war. With a cast of fantastic young Colombian non-actors and a blaring, almost primal soundtrack by Mica Levi (Under the Skin), Monos offers a unique and psychedelic insight into the brutal conflicts which have plagued South America for over 60 years.

  A hormone driven comedy of sex and friendship between a group of catholic school girls in 1990s Scotland. The strongest aspect of this film is the performance of the five principle characters who do a good job portraying a believable friendship dynamic with great chemistry. Each of the girls have distinct personalites without falling into silly caricatures, something for the which the author and director also deserve credit. Beyond this the story is a fairly simple affair hitting most of the notes expected of a low budget indie comedy. The female viewpoint however, is enough to stop it ever feeling generic.
