Really liked aspects of this. The whole aesthetic is gorgeous and brooding. It has a dream-like feel to it. Not quite a nightmare, but one of those strange, eerie dreams.

Struggled with the dialogue, as I’ve heard many people did. My mind was grappling with every sentence, working overtime. When the kid started speaking normally for like a few sentences it felt like my brain was drinking a cold glass of water on a scorching hot day.

A fantastic Aussie film that I’m ashamed to say I had never seen before! This is high-octane storytelling reminiscent of early Coen bros. Lots of bad dudes who are very often idiots.

It’s almost impossible to not root for a young Heath Ledger who plays the lovable, in-too-deep Jimmy. Rose Byrne’s character maybe could have had more depth. Bryan Brown as Pando, the mob boss, is both hilarious and terrifying. His Dad-on-vacation polo shirts were a nice touch.

A dark film that builds slowly then turns the dial up to 11 in a frantic final third act.

I really liked the way it was edited - the iconic rapid-fire edits which depict the sensation of getting high (parodied in Simpsons I believe), but also the use of the split screen, even when characters were next to each other! I thought that was a clever way of showing two people together but actually alone in their experience.

Ellen Burstyn as the mother was incredible. Her story was definitely the most depressing
