Sympathy for sadness is invoked when the viewer is shown how someone loved what they lost. The Menu errs by ‘telling what’ and not ‘showing how.’ I felt no sympathy or disappointment for actions taken by or to any character. This film masterfully develops highly complex characters from a plot that on its face, is simple. The acting and screenplay are the best of 2022, and this film probably deserves best motion picture of 2022. Even without any cinematic action gimmicks, the viewer is glued to the screen, genuinely rooting for the main character to find happiness without compromising his morality. This movie felt like a roller coaster ride at Orlando Studios. It is meant to be played on a big screen with big speakers and in 3D. Though the CGI is akin to a well-made video game, there is no denying that the visual effects are absolutely stunning. The plot worked well for what it was, except that both the protagonist and antagonist made decisions that a reasonable character in their shoes would not have made (more below). Additionally, the…
Good but a little overrated. Definitely a fun film to watch, and the acting is great. It does a tasteful time of alluding to the original film, but sometimes it goes to far (ie the shirtless beach scene in this film would look very strange taken out of context of the movie).
While I would consider the original a must watch, I would not consider this movie a must watch mainly because of its intentional corniness and lack off originality.…
