revolutionary violence is revolutionary praxis, full stop. were the French "bystanders" when they gleefully shouted anti-Arab slurs from their apartment balconies and cawed for the arrest of an Algerian laborer? were they "innocents" when they beat an Arab child as he sold snacks in the horse stands? were they "reluctant" when they ordered the bombing of entire families as they lay sleeping in their homes?

countless reviews extend sympathy toward the French colonialists and even Colonel Mathieu, framing them as…

it definitely transfixes me as an early 2010s time capsule of cinematic sensation, but idk i’m too feminist for this omg 😭😭😭 self-destructive hedonism and debauchery can't fill the void of Americana, what's new. i just don't think Harmony Korine understands women and friendship between women enough to satirize or exploit anything. of course his old ass met his future wife when she was a high schooler lol. it's also difficult for me to acknowledge James Franco's performance when we…

this reads exactly how you'd expect an early 2000s japanese supernatural-historical movie to be. nonetheless, the costumes are great throughout, and the real winners here are Seimei and Hiromasa
YES we love the morally-upstanding noble + clever court retainer trope. hideaki ito outsold all you flower boys...

also my face when i googled the director and he's a prolific maker of pinku films.
