One of the best examples of “less is more” in filmmaking. Whoever decided to cut 90% of Alejandro’s dialogue and keep the audience in the dark alongside Kate is a genius. It’s a big part of why this is Villeneuve’s best-directed film—he shows incredible restraint and control, not just telling the story with precision, but telling it in a way that’s even more effective than what’s on the page, all while getting the most out of his cast and crew.…

If you told me this was PSH’s voice without prior knowledge, I would’ve doubted it—it’s such an amazing vocal performance, with a rich New York accent that feels incredibly lived-in. This film is so many things at once: beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, and deeply healing. I felt so connected to the characters, especially through the questions they ask each other in their letters—honest, understanding, and strikingly authentic. The ending was cathartic, and the music had me nodding my head and pinching my soul at the same time. Can’t wait to see MEMOIR OF A SNAIL.

Quite hard for me to love this, but it’s deeply relatable and crushing at the same time. Amazing performances, and Leigh is great at peeling back the layers and commanding your attention. It’s just a vibe thing I’m not fully on board with, so I’m in the admiring-but-not-loving-it camp.

Had a good time with this, especially with Pattinson’s work, and at some point, the absurdist satire did eventually click for me. But this won’t come close to the top-tier films of the year to come. Off to a fun start, though.

This is the film I’ve been waiting for, not just for this festival, but for the entire year. After 10 months where CHALLENGERS was one of the few real highlights, this film was a revelation. Sean Baker brings his usual sensibilities and elevates them to greatness, aided by an outstanding ensemble led by an all-time Mikey Madison performance. The cinematography is stunning, with signature out-of-focus shots that left me in awe. But the story and the way Baker’s writing and…

Going into Eggers’ reimagining of Nosferatu without knowing much about the source material was a deliberate choice, and it paid off. Letting myself get fully swept up in his latest work was a thrilling experience. After reading a bit about it afterward, I found the direction Nosferatu adaptations tend to take with the ending far more interesting. Ultimately, that’s what I loved most about this story.

Depp’s physical performance is incredible, and Hoult, Dafoe, and Taylor-Johnson are all very strong.…
