  Japan Organized Crime Boss 1969

  it's not the deepest or most intricate of plots, but i liked the setup immediately and the performances are all great
  tomisaburo wakayama is unhinged in this one, he pretty much steals the show

  of the earlier fukasaku yakuza films that i've seen, presentation-wise and plot-wise this one felt the most like a proto-battles without honour and humanity, which is probably helped by the presence of bunta sugawara and a bunch of the other cast

  overall this is a good one

  i love when natalie portman and hayden christensen have their ~forbidden kiss~ in naboo and the music swells up and then natalie portman goes “no, we shouldn’t be doing this!” and the music cuts out completely

  this movie is so stupid

  once again a shaw brothers movie has a really bad english title, this time it evoked something completely different than what it is (a multi-generational revenge story), but it was pretty good regardless

  also:
  - pai mei is as weird as ever
  - there is a song that plays a bunch of times that rza definitely sampled 2 seconds of for wu-tang’s first album
  - probably a bunch of vocal samples in here too but i didn't watch the english…
