Rewatching this masterpiece after many years just reminded me why I was hooked into South Korean cinema. The story is simply good and the actions scenes are just downright awesome! While the movie never really gets into a full-on romance genre, it still leaves you emotionally attached to the lead characters.

This was a rollercoaster of emotions, and the final 20 minutes had me at the edge of my seat! Just when it seems there isn't gonna be a happy ending comes an unexpected twist — who would've expected that the aunt, whom we thought was just an "extra" character in the beginning, would play a crucial role in the end?

Also, Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun are naturals! Who's not gonna love them even more after watching this film?

This certainly had more potential, but I don't know, maybe I was expecting something bigger to happen? The film was successful in building tension during the first ~45 minutes then everything went anticlimactic thereafter, unfortunately.

The opening scene leading to the title screen somehow gives me goosebumps. From just the opening, you'll already know that this not going to be an easy watch. The opening also actually answers many questions later on in the film.

Loved how Kim Ki-duk shows the harsh reality of life of low-income families in South Korea in this metallic, industrial-themed film. The pacing also fits the film's gloomy atmosphere well.

We get introduced to a ruthless thug who progessively transitions…
