Cuties 2020
I LOVED this film. Totally told from a female POV, almost completely ignoring the male gaze. Which is important, because as the little girls in the film play act their too-mature roles, it’s important that we see them as what they are: little girls, finding themselves, their identity, somewhere between the role they are expected to play by their parents, and the role of intoxicating enticer vixen. It’s a rough world, a confusing world, and one where you pray they survive the journey to their true selves without too much damage. A beautiful, compelling film, well-told.
