    interesting as a portrait of a hateful, pathetic man pushed to self-destruction, unable to escape his own inadequacies and trapped in his flaws and vices

    mockumentary stylings are fun (particularly in the latter third) but zelig used the medium to greater effect, i think

    had a ticket to see this @ the cameo but i ate too many noodles and cucumber black fungus salad and so worried that a dark room and a reclining cinema chair in row D might actually cause me to pass out and die

    glad i instead went home and digested and enjoyed my favourite film snack (1000 kg of my own fingernails) throughout this relaxing experience

    (to firstly echo paddy's thoughts) pacing + cinematography were brilliant, and ralph fiennes had me (as expected) breathless, but

    the score was nearly omnipresent + distracting, unnecessary and altogether frustrating. the film appears to vaguely register this, as the tensest scenes are those in which there is silence, or incredibly slight ambient sound, or an impenetrable clamour.

    i very nearly loved this, but instead spent a totalled 90 min of runtime attempting not to scream "SHUT THE FUCK UP" at…
