Starve Acre 2023
Beautifully shot, very atmospheric, some good performances - but the changing of the direction of the supernatural elements entirely changed the tone of the film. It felt like they were going for something more recognisably Folk Horror™ than the book and in doing that a lot of the emotional depth was lost. My partner - who hasn't read the book - was left wondering who on earth Jack was. The plot of the novel was simpler and would have fit better into such a short run time.
