    You, Me and Dupree

I want to like this like one of those typical early 2000s feel good comedies - but this ain’t it. What’s with that whole “Mandi slept with everyone in the town” bit? Can’t tell if it’s because the acting is bad or the direction - but everything about this is so cheesy (not to mention the homophobic and misogynistic undertone).
Father in-law hates daughter’s husband. Husband thinks wife is cheating on her. Wife catches husband with porn. Etc. etc.
Can’t stand this basic storyline where everything becomes so predictable that I’m actually SURPRISED at how unsurprising this is.

The music that plays when “Gloria” is doing her dance (and that follows through the film) is perfect. Really fun who done it type of film that blends sexy with mystery and suspense very well.

    Random thoughts:
I knew from the jump there was something wrong with the “Indian”’s face. Also, Holly is hilarious and I definitely would not want to piss her off. Her shouting down the stairs and at the cars was hysterical.

    Bottoms

    ★★★½

The overall cheeky feel of the film keeps this from being great. On the border of realism and absurdism, Bottoms fails to develop itself tonally and keeps the viewer teetering on where to invest their attention. Regardless, you can tell the cast had a blast filming this and it does present a few standout scenes that imo carry the movie.
It definitely delivers a few shocks and laughs.

P.s. thank you to the music supervisors for ending the film with a Charlie Xcx track. Your good deeds have not gone unnoticed.

    The Descent

    ★★★★

Just rewatched this, one of my favorites from my teenage years (I’ll never know why my parents didn’t monitor my media intake). The Descent plays into claustrophobia incredibly well & halfway in throws the audience a major curveball that only exacerbates the terror of it. A solid early 2000’s horror film that remains top tier as time goes on.

P.S. I genuinely feel like Sarah did not need to do Juno like that.
