A bizzarre sci-fi which depicts very accurately the times we’re living in through themes like greediness, colonialism and the loss of humanity in a capitalistic society where a person is reduced to a number.
    Bitter, sarcastic, dark yet hopeful.

Finally watched this masterpiece restored on the big screen 💓an indescribable, ethereal, mysterious, deeply fascinating piece of art that lives rent free in my mind and will always be, in my opinion, one of the best movies ever created.

While inevitably inspired by its predecessors, as well as drawing influences from horror classics like The Exorcist, Possession, and even Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, Eggers’ Nosferatu is a great remake, thanks to his energetic direction, stunning cinematography and bombastic soundtrack.

The choice of turning the sequel into a musical doesn’t always pay off, as it would have required a more dynamic and creative directing approach. Still there are plenty of beautiful shots throughout the movie, enhanced by somber and fascinating cinematography. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is once again mesmerising, while Lady Gaga’s undeniable talent is mostly overshadowed by the poor writing of her Harley Quinn character. Overall it’s a flawed movie, but nonetheless an immersive watch for those who can empathise with the Joker’s tragic journey.
