“I figured one day I'd just wake up and find out what the hell yesterday was all about. I'm not too keen on thinkin' about tommorow. And today's slipping by.“

Whenever De Palma and Pacino are exploring something new: this works really well. When they are recreating stuff from the original: things often feel diluted. Sometimes in this, you run into extended sequences that get across less. For a runtime of 2 hrs and 43 mins it more or less executes the same stuff that original was able to do in 90 mins. Completely unrelated to my thoughts on the movie; I personally I have no problem with RDJ in Tropic Thunder but often see discourse with that, but find it odd the same doesn’t occur with Al Pacino in this.

This feels like an echo of an echo of Bong Joon Ho’s work. It’s by no means bad but it’s right on the edge of a 2 1/2 and a 3 for me. I found Pattinson to be grating in this very “Billy Madison”. Mark Ruffalo also becomes tired by a point in the movie. Then you have characters that aren’t entirely serviced so it feels as though they probably shouldn’t have been there at all.
