Apostle 2018
compelling introduction full of sinister mystery, done in by clichés and bad acting by the time the movie is half-over. the questions answered by world-building in the film don't lead to more questions, it just makes the island and the story seem smaller and less satisfying. the tension and sense of danger built in the beginning dwindle away too quickly.
beautiful, moody cinematography tho, lovely to watch no matter how hammy dan stephens gets.
