I loved the soundtrack and its disco Elysium vibe, and I loved how violence wasn't the solution, actually.
The main character felt so out of place to me: why had he been part of a fighting ring? Why was his memory so amazing? Why could he find truffles on his own? I don't want the movie to answer these questions, I just felt like these were such specific characteristics that they pulled a lot of attention from the mood the…
I am not sure how I would rate this movie if I hadn't had the expectations I did, but... I did expect a lot more introspection and depth that the film just didn't seem interested in offering. This is obviously based on a real story and maybe the actual person did not want to share more or have more speculated on, and their story is obviously awe-inspiring, but that didn't make this a good movie for me.
Fate is amazing as always and despite Heaven's feel being very bottom-heavy in the VN, this movie does not disappoint. I did find the first big fight scene to be unnecessarily long, and there were a fair amount of important character moments missing (where is the Lorelei, please and thank you), this was overall a solid adaptation of an amazing work. Can't wait for part 3!
