Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

    ★★½

This was just a typical, boring marvel movie with really nothing special about it. The acting was just plain bad, aside from awkwafina. The story was rife with various plot holes, the characters felt criminally underdeveloped and, frankly, I never cared about anything happening to them. It has all the basic marvel ingredients that make for a decently fun watch with quippy moments of dialogue, fun little fight scenes, and surprising cameos from older movies. But, as a stand-alone film it’s pretty boring. I’m tired of pretending that everything marvel puts out is automatically gold. Do something different. Be better.

A really beautiful and unique superhero movie. There’s a lot of corny exposition and some characters fall really flat after having great potential (Kingo and sprite). But, the storytelling is unique the characters are fun and interesting and the action sequences are intense. Much of the movie feels like a sort of love letter to humanity and the world at large, focusing mainly on whether humans are a people worth saving. They do a great job of grappling with this question throughout the film and it’s an enjoyable watch that doesn’t feel like the nearly 3 hour movie that it is.

An absolute masterpiece. In terms of adaptation, a perfect interpretation of a wonderful book. Visually breathtaking with fantastic audio, music, and set pieces. Dune should be a tv show, so that more time can be spent on character relationships and betrayal. Because of this, characters like lady Jessica, thufir hawat, and dr. Yueh don’t have the same effect that they do on the page. Yet, the story of Paul ATREIDES is perfectly told, and this movie will hopefully encourage more people to read the books
