Brian De Palma's Carrie (1976) does a lot of things right from both a narrative and filmmaking style, and I can see why it has remained a favorite and inspiration for filmmakers and cinephiles, alike. In having to deliver both a high school drama and a horror, I think the film succeeds most in De Palma's ability to effectively contrast absurdity with poetic/emotionally significant moments to elevate the gravity of a scene. Megalopolis 2024
Terrible. God awful movie. A real trial to watch from beginning to end.
EDIT*: The more I think on this film, I do think it will be worth a rewatch years from now and I might change my opinion on it, but my immediate reaction was that FFC missed much more than he hit on this one.
