A Karate Christmas Miracle 2019

Far and away the most unhinged movie I've ever seen. The plot follows a kid who believes becoming a black belt in karate will bring back his dad who either died in or was kidnapped during (it's not clear which) a mass shooting at a movie theater.
To summarize: the mom is running a marketing campaign for applesauce, she meets a Southern forensic psychic turned law professor who works to find the (maybe) dead dad. There's a bunch of visions…

This movie honestly should feel formulaic, it checks basically every action movie stereotype on the list. A badass lead with a tragic backstory forced back into his old life to take vengeance. Reuniting with erstwhile connections that are all appropriately mysterious. Dispatching scores of anonymous henchmen with ruthless efficiency only to inexplicably struggle to tackle the handful of named bad guys. Oh, and Eastern European baddies to boot.
