“What the hell are we supposed to use man, harsh language?”
This was a badass piece of pure sci-fi action. Aliens definitely lived up to the standards that the original Alien had after its release. This film was claustrophobic, intense, and wildly entertaining. I loved the desolate and industrial aura of each scene. Ellen Ripley might just be the coolest character in existence. James Cameron really out did himself by producing a sequel that perfectly added onto this alien odyssey.

A captivating noir masterpiece that excels in its cinematography, themes, and use of color. This mystery truly mesmerized me by the end and the characters were so well developed and unforgettable. Hitchcock’s camerawork and landscape shots created a unique picture unlike any other. This is cinema at its purest.

Quite literally one of the best films I have ever seen. The painstaking balance between the atrocities of combat and the heavenly tranquility of nature had me elevating for the entirety of its perfectly paced runtime. Malick poeticizes his war torn purgatory into a euphoric and sentient character study. This is up there with Apocalypse Now for being my favorite war film ever. The somber monologues and heavenly cinematography created a divine and compelling experience. Malick has officially secured a spot in my Mount Rushmore of filmmakers.

I really had no clue what to think of this until that gripping and anxiety-inducing final act.

For the past week I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this avant-garde accomplishment. After another watch, I can say that this is truly something special, but what else should I expect from Terrence Malick at this point? He sees the world from such a serene, intimate, and visceral perspective by truly understanding the sophisticated dynamic of human interaction.

I couldn’t even imagine seeing this thing in theaters in 1997. This was a menacing examination of the detrimental power that vanity can have on one’s family and career. The religious allegories, exotic imagery, and controversial final act worked for me on multiple levels. Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino are incapable of disappointing.
