The movie had a somewhat promising start, but it ended up being a dud for me. Hugh Grant is always a great villain, but his character and much of the script felt like they were written by an AI model trained exclusively on /r/atheism and Jared Leto’s version of the Joker. By the end, it just became gross in a way that was not fun.

Visually, it had some great moments, and the two female leads gave solid performances.

Rocketman walked so Better Man could fly. Clearly taking inspiration from Elton John's surrealist storytelling approach to the musical biopic, Better Man doubles down and completely embraces a bold, dreamlike approach. The result being a visually stunning movie from start to finish.

Not as strong as Red Rocket, but Sean Baker has delivered another compelling film that continues his exploration of sex workers and the deeply human stories within the more fucked-up sides of American individualism and the so-called American Dream (with a wacky russian twist this time). I was surprised it won Best Picture, but it is still a great watch.

More importantly, henchmen are SO BACK. This movie was surprisingly hilarious at times, especially in the second act.
