Shakespearean to a fault. Half of this movie is CGI slo-mo daggers cutting through the air.

Dune: Part Two 2024
As a huge fan of the novels I was worried that it would be impossible to faithfully adapt the last half of the first book in this film.
Was Dune Part 2 a 100% faithful adaptation? Absolutely not. But the changes that were made really drove home Frank Herbert’s original message and themes of the book, especially by enriching the Fremen culture.
This is a cinematic masterpiece that proves if a director and screenwriter know the source material well then they can adapt it (and adapt it amazingly) without needing to be 100% faithful.

Autumn Sonata 1978
Don’t watch on Mothers Day.
Stellar acting, exhausting dialogue, and exceptional color palette. Felt like I was eavesdropping the whole time - there was enough to get a decent idea of these two women’s pasts but still vague enough that I couldn’t 100% understand or relate to them just through the evening’s dialogue.
This was my first Bergman film, and I wonder if I’ll rate this higher once I get more accustomed to his style.
