  took me a few days to process: 

  *one of my top films of 2025* 

  i watched the theatrical version and i’ll move to the “tv series” version next. what does family mean? is there love in abuse? one where i just started uncontrollably crying and thinking back on my childhood - i think that was about 2 hour 30 mark. 

  i recently lost my uncle and the festive motifs here stirred me back to christmas eves of my youth- nights…

  i cried, i laughed, i gasped. 

  the performance from rowland is breathtaking - is she absorbing her role or is the role absorbing her? the character of sarah also stands out - not only is gene descending into madness associated with alcoholism but sarah furthers this by making the play about herself and her credibility as a writer. 

  this is the ripple effects of giallo motifs without the frills and theatrics - exquisite casting, muted set design (while pops of red delight) and a soundtrack that cuts right to the chase. 

  my first foray into cassavetes and i am so hungry for more.

  stylish, clever, and beautifully shot - that ending scene of parker posey blacking out to dee-lite is fucking iconic. this soundtrack will haunt me - definitely one of my “watch  at least once a month” movies moving forward
