  there's a rich history of millennials realizing only way later that the male protagonists of their favorite movies from when they were a kid actually sucked the whole time, and that that fact was barely if at all subtextual. the type specimen of this organism is 500 Days of Summer, though there are many others (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World; Sideways if you're that kind of person [me]).
