This is cinema. My favorite of 2024. Ticks every single box of what I want out of the art form and more. The first time I saw this in theaters, I knew absolutely nothing about the film, didn’t even watch the trailer. And yet, on one watch you get the strong sense that there’s a story here, in the production and the making of the piece. That the film was made with genuine care and helmed by an empathetic person…
So most of the reviews I’m seeing are (rightly I suppose) talking mostly about how fun the film is and how much heart it has and while I appreciate and love those aspects about it I may be reading it a bit differently. Wrapped in a wacky and sentimental lightheartedness led by Pattinsons hilarious and endearing role(s), this film deals with a few interesting and heavy topics.
