Cute bittersweet movie with a (semi) star-crossed lovers sci-fi/fantasy theme in the vein of Hosoda's other films (The Boy and the Beast, Belle, Summer Wars). Time travel is always a tricky plot device, but The Girl Who Leapt Through Time pulls it off fairly well, especially when placed in the hands of high school students. The introduction and significance of the painting that becomes a plot point towards the latter half of the movie left something to be desired but overall, I would recommend this as a cute, sad and sweet viewing.

Wonderful allegory for the suppression, historical and contemporary of marginalized (particularly homosexual) groups. David Cronenberg plays is adept at playing the avatar of scientific racism. Like many horror films, Nightbreed shows the police to be fairly inept, however, unlike most, they are also portrayed as contemptuous, petty, reactionary and cruel. I especially enjoyed how most of them are portrayed by some of the dorkiest lookin dudes I've ever seen play cops in a movie.
Definitely recommend
