Quite possibly my favorite film of Alexander Payne's filmography. It's a been quite a while since I've experienced this level of completeness and sense of satisfaction by the end of the film. From the classic Universal Production logo to the vintage R rating notice screen, Payne immediately places us into a period film with a period sensibility that is reflected through Paul Giamatti's character. Misunderstands leads to conflict and drama. Common goal brings feelings of conflict to a neutral space. Last quarter conflict bretrays the neutral ground pact only to be predictably resolved through conventional tropes. Loosely (quite loosely) based on Shakespeare's play "Much Ado About Nothing", the romantic comedy (I suppose) can service those who are looking for any kind of rom com in the current landscape that is incredibly sparse of comedies and romance. Glen Powel and Sydney Sweeney are incredibly beautiful people to admire on the big screen.

Another strong film by Bradley Cooper. The cinematography and production designs were gorgeous and felt authentic to the time period. Bradley Cooper completely disappeared behind his portrayal of Leonard Bernstein and Kazu Hiro's unmatched prosthetic work. Carey Mulligan is a force and carried the heart of this film. The frustrated, deep, quiet sufferring her character had to endure after the transition from the fairytale like golden age of the black and white era to the more nuanced and complicated times…
Not the strongest in Disney's canon. Last 3rd of the movie's tonal shift into a rebellion war cry felt odd. Animation style, character design, and voice acting are top notch, but the songs aren't as memorable as the classics.
