This was a fun movie. The morbid sense of humor and irreverent attitude towards death were well executed. I wouldn't call it an excellent movie necessarily, there were a lot of one dimensional characters and the story was predictable, but I don't think that was really the point because I had a great time nonetheless.
This was a great action thriller through and through, but watching it after Heat, I felt like it didn't have the same spark in its delivery. The story and character development is probably more cohesive and better tied up than Heat's; maybe the lack of DeNiro and Pacino's performance is what kept me from getting as invested. Jamie Foxx's character has great growth through the film, but I felt like Cruise's never really did anything for me. He was pretty one-dimensional throughout. The cinematography, scenes, and story beats do still make this one hell of a film and deserving of praise, but somehow I'm left wanting.
