I wish more stories of post-war trauma, survivor’s guilt, cultural identity and disillusionment, and nuclear war were told allegorically through big f’in lizards.

The word for this movie is “gross.”

That’s the word that kept coming back to me throughout watching. This is a gross movie.

I don’t even mean that in pointedly derogatory way. It just is.

What Capone lacks in visual acceptability it also lacks in coherency. You can argue that the story of a senile man with neurosyphilis is intentionally presented in that way, but I’m referring to the fact that this feels like a piecemeal patchwork movie.

    SXSW Film #12

Ending SXSW on a high note!

This is like if Tom Green made Good Time, and is possibly my favorite of the festival.

It’s messy but in a very fun way. It’s a great showcase for Robert Pattinson’s range and now there’s another Bong Joon Ho movie in the world.

This really opened my eyes to the everyday realities for the deaf community. It also made me sad for the U.S. healthcare systems, and scared for the volume that I listen to podcasts at.

This told a compelling social narrative with some of the best performances of the years, but unlike Beautiful Boy, did so without coming across as preachy.

As the assistant to a “big ideas” guy in a niche arts field in NYC, this movie hit me like a sledgehammer from every angle.
