  got me and the professor both crying 😿 really actually the most bleak film ever made. to think that Klimov said if he depicted everything he saw, no one would have watched the film. it’d be too dark. this is literally the toned down version of what happened in ww2 battle of stalingrad. i’m sick to my stomach and drove home in silence. it’s so hard to fathom this evil, especially toward children. never have i seen such terrifying facial expressions as flyora’s in this. dude was 16 giving the most haunting performance of all time

  at first i thought the misogyny was some kind of satire but then i was an hour in and realized that it truly was just that misogynistic. like to the point where it was hard to watch. 1 star for Christina Ricci tap dancing + stunning visuals tho. men love this movie bc it plays out their lifelong fantasies of being saved by a woman who for some reason loves him sooo much despite being treated like a dog
