Joker: Folie à Deux 2024
Joker 2 is another beautiful character study and concept film about false idols, ways and instruments to deal with trauma and more than all a meta commentary about how the first movie was misunderstood by the wrong type of people. Its musical numbers are metaphoric and could be a little bit more visually grand, its core moments a little bit better prepared and the side kick in Harley Quinn a bit sharper characterized.
Sadly this one is now too misunderstood.…

Strength is being confident with your vulnerability. Strength is living with it, standing up despite it, fighting against it. Having no vulnerability is not strength. Marvel wants to create a strong female superhero (which is a really good thing and something the franchise needs), but it wants to do that so stubbornly, that it forgets to actually make her a real character. Chazelle takes the historical changing of the film industry from the silent movie era into movies with sound and metaphorizes it. The films gain sound, the filmsets lose it. The films gain life, the sets, the actors, the parties and the whole industry lose it.
Chazelle then transposes four different concept figures onto that metaphor:
A black man entering the industry and realising he experiences the same racism now in front of the camera instead of behind it…
