Outsiders 1977
The pacing is a bit sluggish and the music is a bit hokey, but overall this is another strong morality play from Sembene. It’s one of the darkest I’ve seen in terms of covering religion, and the power it holds over government and the people. The film says a lot without much in the way of exposition or sermonizing, but through a constant stream of ideas and personification.

The French Connection 1971
Was surprised how this is essentially a mob movie, despite the cops being the “heroes”. They were just as crooked and greedy as the drug lords, especially protagonist Doyle. I wish it lent more into that, though this on the whole was an entertaining watch.
Maybe a case of enjoying the films it inspired more than the film itself.
