A fun action comedy that opens with a pretty entertaining John Woo-esque gunfight with some great wirework, but then forgets it’s an action comedy until the third act culminates in a hand-to-hand fight to the death between Wahlberg and an incredibly entertaining Lou Diamond Phillips. The action is expertly done even if it’s a little less frequent than it should be, and most of the comedy lands (especially due to solid supporting turns from Applegate, Gould, and Woodbine).

Somehow managed to go until now without having ever seen this, but it’s such a huge cultural touchstone that I was still familiar with major parts of it (the “Moving In Stereo” sequence, “I’m gonna kick 100% of your ass!”). I think I might’ve come too it a little later in life than I should’ve, so I only thought it was okay as opposed to falling head over heels in love with it. But it’s still pretty fun.

First Blood except the commentary is less about how we treat our veterans and more about how fucking crooked and awful cops are. Pierre gives a star making performance as the resourceful lead, and Johnson has had a hell of a run the last decade plus as charismatic villains. Glad I got to see this one in a nearly packed house on one of the best and biggest screens in town!

A fun superhero movie with charm to spare, and that cast! Dalton’s actor slash Nazi spy villain is a lot of fun, and I honestly would’ve watched the movie where we just follow his character.
