Eggers knows what he’s doing, man.

Prior to this, the only thing I’d seen Lily-Rose Depp in was Yoga Hosers. Suffice it to say, this was a far better experience, and she was absolutely stellar in this.

Really, the entire cast knocked it out of the park. Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Ineson, Willem DaFoe, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Simon McBurney and, of course, Bill Skarsgård, all came to play. Top tier performances all the way around.

    Honestly, great restraint from Eggers…

Overall a pretty fun movie, but one that felt like it was missing something.

That’s a relatively small nit to pick, though. Overall, I really dug this. They absolutely nailed the aesthetic they were going for, and they had some really nice practical effects for the gore (although I kind of wanted them to lean into that a little…

Well, I loved that. Incredible visuals, great cast, great concept and a healthy heap of pulling on the ol’ heartstrings. I loved every second of this. At some point I’ll carve out some time and watch this back-to-back with Danny Boyle’s Sunshine. That’ll be a nice and carefree day.
