    The House That Screamed

I didn’t know this before but it is just too close, this is the initial inspiration for Dario Argento’s Suspiria
This is a beautiful, eerie, creeping, gothic, house horror in earthy tones.
    Gorgeous haunting score.
    Mystery, mysterious disappearances.
It has already early Giallo like elements.
Never over the top to don’t break that gentle tune but this little spikes bring some extraordinary scenes.
Writing and audiovisuals create a lot of atmosphere.
This holds and tightens until the ending.
    This very…

    Escape from New York

    ★★★★½

It’s been a while when I’ve seen Escape from New York the last time.
And this makes a difference to how I had it in my recollection.
Things aged good, other a little dusty.
The cast is a joy! I love this lineup.
Snake Plissken is just one of Kurt Russel’s most iconic roles! Damn cool!
Isaac Hayes is the other cool side. The Duke rules!
Adrienne Barbeau! The cherry on top!
John Carpenter knew who he needs to get…

    Dead & Buried

    ★★★½

First things I see, Stan Winston on the effect work, Dan O’Bannon on the screenplay, sounds more promising than the prominence of the title.

How good is already the opening!
    From beautiful to totally crazy.
Already had a Wicker Man vibe!
Later there is even something of Carpenter’s The Fog
And yes, makeup and effects are masterful.
    Creepy images and atmosphere.
There is something I miss to the highs of the better known classics.
Maybe bigger scenes, maybe a more thrilling finale…
But it is 80s horror that is worth to discover!

What Have You Done to Solange?

    ★★★½

What Have You Done With Solange? might not be the too typical Giallo.
Bigger parts could be filed under Poliziotteschi.
Then there is this married Casanova of a teacher that needs to stick his nose in everything.
This is an interesting evolving story.
    Beautifully filmed and atmospheric.
A nice cast but they don’t get that much depth.
It has some spikes but can’t say it is exorbitantly thrilling.
Towards the ending it founds more tightening.
    Nice one but Massimo Dallamano…
