I’ve read Leonard Maltin’s 1993 Movie Encyclopedia cover to cover 127 times.
“Call me Snake”
This movie is by no means “good”. To anyone who has read the book it is offensive that so much was cut down and characters were changed. Having said all that, it is a decent vampire thriller. Its classic story and 70s aesthetic makes it an enjoyable watch. There’s a couple decent actors in it that do a good job. The kid who plays Mark did a great job.
The movie is still low rent, they butchered up a story…
I really like this movie, one of my faves in recent memory, but after my most recent watch I’m only asking questions:
Why did the team who beat up his girlfriend let her live? Why not wait for him to come home? Why not try to track him down and instead just assume that everything was good? Why wouldn’t they assume he’d come after them for revenge immediately? Why aren’t any of these questions addressed in the movie?
I love Paul Schrader. He’s one of my favorites. I’ll watch all his movies and this one is excellent. It’s a beautiful movie, that only a talented filmmaker could make. Nothin negative at all, this is great filmmaking. It baffles me that the man who wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull has a hard time getting his films made. Highly recommend this film.
