The Big Clock 1948
I enjoyed The Big Clock, but largely because of Laughton who raises the film by a star at least.
He stands out as an actor with subtleties, smaller gestures and expressions which stand in contrast to a lot of the more predictable, louder performances of the day with similar material. I wish I was around once upon a time to see him perform on stage! Elsewhere, Milland is an actor I've never been drawn to, despite being in other films…

Woman on the Run 1950
A brisk San Fran cat-and-mouse noir with just about a pinch of everything in it. The locations, the dialogue, a dog called Rembrandt and the rollercoaster finale topping it all off.
Although the BR disc isn't in the best shape (I think this is due to original materials being lost in a warehouse fire, the earlier DVDs were awful) there's something about the remaining speckles and scratches which add to the vibes and I'm here for it.
