Lots and lots to like with this one. Felt so swept up by the start, so affected by the middle, so gut-wrenched by the end. If the last 15/20 minutes or so didn’t really drag for me this easily could’ve been higher. Just on the border of ratings, where an 8.5 would probably be more accurate, but I rounded up because of the incredible performances and spectacular, engaging story.

Genuinely such an amazing movie. Perfect length. Incredible performances. The twists added so much, and the ending of the central conflict (who will be the pope) felt extremely earned and predictable in a good way, if that makes sense. But then the final ending after completely shocked me in the best way and recontextualized so much. And the score - SO GOOD! There were a few performances that left me wanting slightly more (Sister Agnes) that keeps this from a 10, but it was truly so close.

I had high expectations from what the premise of the film that I’d heard, and while it mostly lived up to them, it wasn’t quite everything I wanted. Honestly, I felt the emotional beats about family were better than the science fiction time travel business.
