All We Imagine as Light 2024
what a beautiful story about women by a woman. i loved the intimacy and atmosphere of this movie, though it was maybe a bit too meandering at times. the relationship between these three women was wonderfully done and the score / that final scene really tied the movie together. it was especially nice to see the politics of language and relationships intertwined ! joining the ranks of people frustrated this movie isn’t getting the awards backing it deserves but i am so glad it’s still screening around the world

i enjoyed a lot of the elements of this movie, particularly when it really leaned into the ballistic action scenes and hero journey tropes, and i appreciated the themes of the disempowered and oppressed getting revenge on those with power. dev patel is one beautiful man and those action sequences were unbelieeeeevable. interested to do some reading and thinking on the critique of hindu nationalism… definitely could have gone harder but i can only imagine the roadblocks he would’ve faced…
