One of my most highly anticipated films of 2025 and I would say Bong Joon Ho mostly delivered! Mickey 17 was a lot of fun. It is goofy, unapologetically over the top, and full of heart. Every Robert Pattinson performance further cements him as a great. His performance as Mickey pairs with Naomi Ackie’s as Nasha to form an entertaining and sincere relationship. “What could be more hollow than to die alone, unloved?”

That’s the stuff right there. Beautiful views, compelling characters, interesting relationships, and a classic Western soundtrack. The whole cast gives great performances but Winstone and Watson’s turn as the Stanleys was especially good. I didn’t anticipate The Proposition to spend so much time with their characters but it ended up working well. Each character and each relationship had the depth required to make the movie as engrossing as it could be. One of my favorite westerns I’ve seen!

We need more pirate movies but who would dare to try topping this? One of the best scores of all time, an incredible cast of colorful characters, great humor, plus really creative action that thrills and simultaneously helps us learn about those characters. Iconic movie that will continue to stand the test of time.

“That’s got to be the best pirate I’ve ever seen.”
    “So it would seem.”
