Feels like a watching a two hour trailer

Great documentary on the philosophy and historical context of filmmaker Ousmane Sembène and his works.

This movie feels like a very unique sci-fi in the sense that it's futuristic aspect is understated -- you quickly come to accept the world and it's technology as it is. There are no grand schemes which alienate you from future Los Angeles, it just exists in the story world and the intricacies of the near-future are revealed as the emotional drama of the film unfolds.

This film is one that I return to when I'm feeling down or lacking inspiration; it is one which reminds me of why I decided to go into film and what it means to be an artist. I'm brought to tears with every viewing, and often for different reasons -- with most Ghibli films I'm touched by how lovingly life is portrayed and shots which add to a story just by showing the environment in action. With this story specifically, the themes of personal exploration, what compels one to create a piece of art, and community are deeply affecting.
