    Suffers as much as it succeeds in the vein of “John Wick clones”: Fun style and super charming performance by Patel, but leaves much to be desired in the way of a compelling plot. I do think it’s important for American media to recognize the harm Modi and the BJP have inflicted on India, but a lot of the themes just fall a bit short here.

    If this is Dev Patel’s first stab at directing though, he’s in for a great career.

    There’s two protagonists here, but I’m not sure they could or should have been weighted equally. Saeed is a man who clearly gets sexual gratification out of hurting others, but genuinely believes that his refusal to accept his victims’ services indicates his devotion to Allah. He performs salah twice in this film, yet he is interrupted both times. He begs forgiveness of Allah when he can’t help touching up on a corpse, yet he looks to the Eighth Imam in…

    The least realistic part was a Zelda player getting a girlfriend. Other than that, this was pretty true to life, especially because aforementioned girlfriend was a minor.

    If you go into this having only read the plot summary—a time traveling agent must stop a terrorist that has evaded him for his whole career—you will 100% think you’re watching the wrong movie. Maybe I just didn’t get it.
